Oscar Duarte stepped on Jordi Alba's football to send him down inside the box for referee Mohammed Mohamed to point to the spot on the 31st minute, before composed Ferran Torres converted the resulting penalty expertly.
Spain dominated the entire first 45 minutes, as Costa Rica failed to make any meaningful advances.
Ferran Torres solo run was blocked before he chanced on a loose ball inside the box to sent home the fourth on the 54th minute.
Gavi brilliantly volleyed in at the bottom right of the post to continue the massacre on the 74th minute.
Carlos Soler kicked in the seventh goal after latching onto the ball inside the box in the 90th minute, before Alvaro Morata fired a thunderbolt on the 92nd minute to worsen the plight of Costa Rica as they succumbed to a 7:0 defeat in the hands of Spain.
Costa Rica was lacklustre in the entire game as they failed to get a shot at goal.
