Essien, who played for both Chelsea and Real Madrid during his career, commended the Croatian's exceptional talent, describing his career as "incredible." "My favorite midfielder? The first is definitely Luka Modrić.
"Favourite midfielder? The first is surely Luka Modrić. He's an amazing player and he's been a friend to me when I was here. His career is incredible," he said.
Modrić and former Chelsea teammate Ricardo Carvalho were the only two people who attended Essien's 30th birthday celebrations during his time at Real Madrid, highlighting their close bond.
