Bayer 04 Leverkusen have been a new force to reckon with this season both on the domestic scene and European forefront. Leverkusen are yet to be beaten in all competitions. Leverkusen are in the Cup games that includes the Europa League and the DFB Pokal. They are also contenders for the Bundesliga this season.
Xabi Alonso's team are one of the relentless team in Europe this season as they have won all five of their Europa League group stage matches. They find themselves in a group with Molde, Qarabag FK and BK Haecken in Group H. Leverkusen are top with 15 points Gavin won all five of their matches with one to go. Leverkusen have scored 14 goals and conceded just twice. Leverkusen have three clean sheets so far in the competition.
Leverkusen signed last season joint Europa League topscorer from Union St. Gilloise who scored 6 goals in the person of Victor Boniface. Victor Boniface has four goals from just five matches played so far in the Europa League as he is just one goal behind the leading topscorers. Florian Wirtz is also joint first in assist together with Ward-Prowse on four assists.
To talk of players with most goal contributions, Leverkusen have two players who are joint leaders. Victor Boniface and Florian Wirtz lead the latter with 6 goal contributions each.
Leverkusen are not only shinning internationally, they are also excelling domestically as they are unbeaten in the league and cup games. Leverkusen have met Bayern München, Leipzig and Mönchengladbach but they are still unbeaten. Out of the twelve Bundesliga matches played, Leverkusen have won eleven out of it whilst picking just a draw against record Champions Bayern München.
Leverkusen are top on the Bundesliga with 34 points after 12 matchdays. Comparing last season, they had 50 points after matchday 34 making them finish in the 6th position. They look forward to compete for more this term.
Leverkusen have five players on the Bundesliga top assistors with four players assisting on five different counts and the other assisting on four different occasions. Jeremie Frimpong, Jonas Hofmann, Florian Witz and Victor Boniface have all assisted five times with Alejandro Grimaldo assisting four times. Leverkusen are not only competing for top assistors they are also prolific up front with Alejandro Grimaldo and Victor Boniface with 7 goals each.
Leverkusen boss Xabi is optimistic that his team can add more steam. He said " I think we can improve a lot. We talked about some concepts and the players understood them. I saw a good quality in the team and I have to bring into the pitch". He concluded by saying that " good concentration and mentality are the key".
Leverkusen are going to improve to the very high level if management of affairs at the club goes the same way. With rumours that Xabi Alonso will move to Real Madrid, he has signed a contract extension with Leverkusen until it elapses in June 2026.
