Head coach of Ghana, Otto Addo has lashed out at referee Ismail Elfath for his abysymal officiating, which he described as disappointing and unacceptable.
The Black Stars tactician feels the Moroccan-born American center referee was against them all round during the fierce clash, quizing why he failed to consult the VAR at a very crucial stage.
"We are very disappointed especially with the penalty situation. We had a good match. Possession was always going for Portugal and we expected that.
"We responded well. We showed bravery. We tried, but why did the referee not consult the VAR? he fumed."
For most part of the match, a frustrated Addo was captured showing his displeasure with the referee or sometimes putting his hands up at the touchline of the Ghana bench.
Ghana kicked off their 2022 World Cup campaign with 3-2 defeat to the Selecao of Portugal.
Captain Andre Ayew lashed in the leveller for Ghana on the 73rd minute after Cristiano Ronaldo had broken the virginity of the game through a contentious penalty in the 65th minute.
Atlético Madrid teenager Joao Felix and Rafael Leao extended the lead for Portugal before Osman Bukari pulled a goal back for Ghana in the 89th minute of the brutal clash. .
