With anticipation building ahead of the CAF Awards 2025, early projections suggest Moroccan stars could dominate this year’s ceremony, celebrating the finest in African football.

According to reports, Achraf Hakimi is the frontrunner for the prestigious CAF Men’s Player of the Year award after a phenomenal season with Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and the Moroccan national team. The 26-year-old right-back enjoyed a trophy-laden campaign, winning the UEFA Champions League, Ligue 1, and UEFA Super Cup, while also guiding Morocco to an unbeaten World Cup qualifying run.

In the Interclub Player of the Year category, Fiston Mayele of the Democratic Republic of Congo is tipped to claim the award following his prolific run with Pyramids FC, where he led the Egyptian giants to their first-ever CAF Champions League title, scoring crucial goals throughout the campaign.

Rising Moroccan talent Othmane Maama is expected to be named Young Player of the Year, capping an outstanding year that saw him play a pivotal role in Morocco’s U-20 side, who are projected to win the National Team of the Year award after lifting the U-20 World Cup.

Egypt’s Ahmed El Shenawy is likely to be crowned Goalkeeper of the Year, following his consistent performances for Pyramids FC in both domestic and continental competitions. His club is also tipped to clinch the Club of the Year honour.

In the coaching category, Krunoslav Juričić, who masterminded Pyramids FC’s continental triumph, is widely expected to win Coach of the Year, while Somali referee Omar Abdulkadir Artan is the favourite for Referee of the Year, recognizing his consistency and command in high-profile CAF competitions.

Meanwhile, Moroccan Football Federation president Fouzi Lekjaa is set to receive a CAF Honor Award for his exceptional leadership and contribution to African football development.

The CAF Awards 2025 are expected to take place later this year, with Morocco and Egypt emerging as the night’s biggest winners if these projections come true.
