The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced a list of the continent’s top referees selected to participate in a high-level training camp scheduled to take place in Cairo, Egypt, from November 8 to 13, 2025.
The intensive program forms part of CAF’s preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON 2025), which kicks off in December. The camp aims to sharpen the officials’ physical fitness, tactical awareness, and use of VAR technology to ensure high officiating standards during the tournament.
Among the elite referees invited are Peter Waweru (Kenya), Omar Artan (Somalia), Daniel Laryea (Ghana), Dahane Beida (Mauritania), Mustapha Ghorbal (Algeria), Abongile Tom (South Africa), Amin Omar (Egypt), and Issa Sy (Senegal), along with several other top-performing match officials from across Africa.
CAF’s Refereeing Department says the workshop will combine practical match simulations, video analysis, and fitness tests, all designed to align referees with the latest FIFA refereeing guidelines ahead of the continental showpiece.
Ghana’s Daniel Laryea, widely regarded as one of Africa’s most consistent referees, will represent the West African region in the elite group. His inclusion underscores his growing reputation following his recent assignments in CAF Champions League and World Cup qualifying matches.
The Cairo training camp reaffirms CAF’s commitment to improving officiating quality and consistency, ensuring that the AFCON 2025 tournament in Morocco meets global refereeing standards.
