Ghana winger Joseph Paintsil faces a fresh setback in his bid to make the 2026 FIFA World Cup after missing out on the Black Stars’ 28-man squad for their training camp in Cardiff and the friendly against Wales.

The LA Galaxy attacker was one of the most notable omissions when head coach Carlos Queiroz named his provisional squad for the final stage of preparations.

Paintsil’s absence has raised doubts over his chances of making Ghana’s final 26-man squad for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

The 27-year-old has been in solid form for LA Galaxy this season, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 11 league matches, which many fans felt should have earned him a place in the team.

However, his exclusion has sparked debate among supporters as competition for places in the team continues to grow ahead of the World Cup.

Ghana have already opened camp in Cardiff as they prepare for a friendly match against Wales on June 2.

The match will give the technical team another chance to assess players before travelling to North America for the tournament.

With only 26 players expected to make the final cut, Queiroz still has difficult decisions to make before Ghana travel to North America for the World Cup.
