Ghana Premier League giants Asante Kotoko are reportedly in advanced and encouraging discussions over the possible appointment of UK-born Ghanaian coach Chris Baffour-Akoto as their new head coach, according to trusted sources.

The Kumasi-based club are in the market for a permanent manager, and Baffour-Akoto has emerged as a leading candidate for the role after recently leaving Luxembourg side Titus Petange due to work permit challenges.

Despite the growing interest, Kotoko are not expected to rush into a final decision as they continue to carefully assess their options.

The Porcupine Warriors are currently being led by interim coach Hamza Obeng, who took charge following a turbulent end to the season that saw both Karim Zito and his assistant Prince Yaw Owusu step down after a series of disappointing results.

Baffour-Akoto, a UEFA A Licence holder, enhanced his reputation during the 2024/25 Division One League season, where he guided Rospak FC to a strong second-place finish.

His side accumulated 59 points, scored 50 goals, and recorded over 18 victories in an impressive campaign that drew attention from several clubs.

The 36-year-old has also previously worked with Crawley Town’s U-21 side and Fort William, and served as a video assistant coach with Ghana’s U-20 national team.

His tactical approach and emphasis on developing young players are believed to align well with Kotoko’s current squad profile.

Sources suggest his leadership qualities and modern coaching methods could also help stabilise the dressing room and improve player recruitment for the club.

Kotoko, who finished the just-ended Ghana Premier League season in eighth place, have already described the campaign as disappointing as they look to rebuild ahead of the new season.
