Former Ghana striker Godwin Attram has praised the Ghana Football Association for appointing Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The experienced Portuguese tactician was named Ghana’s new coach earlier this year following the dismissal of Otto Addo in March.
Addo lost his position after Ghana suffered back-to-back defeats against Austria and Germany in international friendlies preparing for the Mundial.
Speaking to Graphic Sports, Attram expressed confidence that Queiroz’s appointment could help improve the mentality and tactical organisation of the national team.
“The FA did well to appoint him, and we hope that whatever the country wants, he will deliver,” Attram said.
The former forward also dismissed concerns about Ghana’s chances in what many have described as a difficult World Cup group.
Asked whether the Black Stars could progress from the group stage, Attram remained optimistic.
“Why not? At the end of the day, it’s just football, and if we prepare ourselves very well, in tune with whatever the players must do, I’m very sure we will qualify out of the group,” he stated.
The Black Stars are expected to continue their preparations for the tournament with a friendly against Wales on June 2 at Cardiff City Stadium.
Ghana will make their fifth appearance at the FIFA World Cup and have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England and Croatia in their remaining group matches.
After suffering group-stage eliminations at the 2014 and 2022 tournaments, Ghana will be hoping to reach the knockout stages for the first time since their historic run at the 2010 World Cup.
Meanwhile, Queiroz has already named a 28-man provisional squad, with the final selection expected to be announced on June 1.
