Asante Kotoko have officially opened a formal investigation into allegations of an attempted bribery involving members of their playing squad ahead of their final Ghana Premier League fixture against Swedru All Blacks at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.
Reports circulating prior to the match suggested that an unidentified individual allegedly attempted to influence players in the build-up to the decisive league encounter. The matter is said to have been first raised internally by defender Patrick Asidu, who promptly reported the issue to the club’s management for further action.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, Kotoko confirmed that its Board and Management had held a meeting with both players and technical staff a day earlier to assess concerns surrounding the team’s inconsistent and underwhelming performances during the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season.
According to the club, the discussions also addressed the alleged bribery attempt, which emerged just before the final league fixture. Management has since confirmed that a full-scale investigation has been launched to establish the facts and determine those involved, if any.
The statement emphasized the club’s strict stance on integrity, discipline, and professionalism, stressing that Kotoko remains committed to protecting the reputation of the team and Ghanaian football as a whole. It further warned that any individual found culpable will face the appropriate disciplinary action.
Management also commended Patrick Asidu for his swift response and professionalism in reporting the incident through the proper internal channels, describing his actions as responsible and in line with the club’s values.
“Asante Kotoko treats issues of this nature with the utmost seriousness,” the statement noted, reinforcing the club’s zero-tolerance approach to misconduct.
Meanwhile, on the pitch, Kotoko endured a disappointing conclusion to the saga, suffering a 2-1 defeat to Swedru All Blacks in a match overshadowed by the off-field controversy.
