Former president of Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi believes the Black Stars should not be underestimated at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, despite their recent poor results.
The four-time African champions, are preparing for the tournament in the United States, Canada and Mexico, but they have not won any of their recent friendly matches, which has raised concerns.
However, Nyantakyi says people should not lose faith in the team. He believes Ghana often performs better when expectations are low.
“As I told somebody yesterday, never write off any Ghana team,” he said.
“The time that you have little faith in them is when they spring surprises. Let us rally behind them, and I think they can do well.”
Ghana will play in Group L against England, Croatia and Panama. They will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, then face England on June 23, and finish the group stage against Croatia on June 27.
The team is currently in Cardiff preparing for a friendly match against Wales on June 2 as part of their final preparations.
Coach Carlos Queiroz has named a provisional 28-man squad, with the final squad expected to be confirmed on June 1.
