Black Meteors captain Daniel Afriyie Barnieh believes his side’s U-23 African Cup of Nations opener against Congo is crucial, as it will set the tone for the Ghanaians’ campaign in Morocco.

The tourney which took off on Saturday saw hosts Morocco coming from behind to stun Guinea 2-1.


Barnieh, speaking ahead of the game - says the mood in and around the team is high as they hope to beat Congo which it’d be an important win.


“It’s a good atmosphere in our camp. On and off the pitch the morale is really high in our camp," the FC Zürich striker said ahead of their opener this afternoon.


“Everything is quite good and our objective for this competition is to qualify for the Olympic Games and also to win the trophy”, Barnieh said at the pre-match press conference.


Ghana faces Congo at Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium today (Sunday, 25 June) at 3pm local time (GMT+1).
