Ghana’s Black Stars have been shortlisted for the Men’s National Team of the Year award at the 2026 CAF Awards following their impressive display at the last FIFA World Cup.

The Black Stars are among 10 national teams nominated for the continental honour, alongside Algeria, Cabo Verde, Côte d’Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Morocco, Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia.

Ghana earned the recognition after reaching the knockout phase of the World Cup in North America for the first time since their last appearance at that stage in 2010.

The Black Stars opened their campaign with a 1-0 victory over Panama, with Caleb Yirenkyi scoring a late winner.

They followed that result with a goalless draw against semi-finalists England before suffering a 2-1 defeat to Croatia in their final group game.

Despite the loss to Croatia, Ghana advanced to the knockout phase for the first since 2010 but unfortunately lost narrowly by 1-0 to Colombia in the round of 32.

The nomination adds to the recognition of Ghana’s return to the World Cup knockout stage, with the 2026 CAF Awards ceremony scheduled for December 7 in Lagos, Nigeria.
