Burkina Faso sacked their coach Hubert Velud on Thursday after the 2013 runners-up crashed out of the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Stallions reached the round of 16 of the competition where they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Mali and crashed out.
The decision not to renew Velud's contract was reached on Thursday, February 8, after a meeting of the Executive Committee of the FBF.
According to a statement made available to Kickgh.com, the French tactician did not meet the target set for him for the tournament, hence the decision.
Below is the statement that reads;
“Meeting this February 8, 2024, the Executive Committee of the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF) after having taken stock without complacency of the participation of the Stallions in the CAN Ivory Coast 2023, greets and thanks the president of the Transition, captain Ibrahim Traoré and his Government, partners, supporters, the sporting public, the Burkinabè of the diaspora for the multifaceted support he received.
“He noted that the results fell short of the expectations of the Burkinabe people and reassured them lover of the round ball of his desire to continue to ensure that the flag national is raised to the highest step of future deadlines.
“To do this, it is undeniable that the management of the Stallions observed during this CAN is out of step with the ambitions of the Executive Committee for football Burkinabè.
“This is why, while thanking the coach Hubert VELUD and the management technical as a whole, the Executive Committee took the decision not to renew the contract of the national coach and the entire management.
“The Executive Committee is already planning on the immediate deadlines which are the qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup and those of the CAN Morocco 2025.
“It will constitute as quickly as possible, competent and resilient technical support with a notebook of charges and imperative objectives for success.
“The Executive Committee calls for the mobilization of all stakeholders around the Stallions to give them strong support and prayers so that they return with more enthusiasm for greater victories.”
