Asante Kotoko captain Samba O’Neil says his side are “ready to make a name” as they prepare for Sunday’s CAF Confederation Cup first-leg clash with Kwara United in Accra.

The FA Cup champions are back on the continental stage, with many of their players making their competition debut. But O’Neil insists they’ve put in the work and are ready to handle the occasion.

“My mentality, as you know, I am always ready, and it’s another opportunity for me to make things different,” O’Neil told AKSC media.

“We are confident, and we are training very hard for this opportunity. Most of us, it’s our first time to play in this kind of competition, so we have to go all out to make a name.”

The Kotoko captain admits expectation comes with the badge.

“When you play for a big club like Kotoko, you have to know that everything you do, they will expect you to win. Whether you play well or badly, you have to win,” he said.

“So the pressure will always be there, so we always need to win to make them happy, so that’s all.”

The Accra Sports Stadium is set for fireworks at 15:00 GMT Sunday, as Kotoko look to roar back onto Africa’s big stage.
