Emmanuel Adebayor has opened up about the most infamous moments of his Premier League career — his 2009 celebration against Arsenal while playing for Manchester City.

After scoring against his former club, the Togo striker ran the length of the pitch to celebrate in front of the travelling Arsenal fans, sparking chaos and prompting objects to be thrown onto the field.

“I apologise because people were throwing things and people that got hurt that day, that’s what I apologise for,” Adebayor said. “But I don’t apologise for what I have done, obviously I’m a human being.”

He also explained the emotional reasons behind the outburst.

“The Arsenal fans changed their song to insult my parents. I will not take that from anyone,” he said, underlining the personal toll of hostile crowds.

For Adebayor, the iconic celebration was more than bravado — it was a message of defiance born out of years of abuse, and one that still divides football fans today.
