Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech is close to sealing a sensational return to his homeland, with a move to Wydad Casablanca expected to be finalised in the coming days.
The transfer comes as Wydad prepare for a crucial CAF Confederation Cup second-leg clash against Ghana’s Asante Kotoko on Friday — a match that could coincide with Ziyech’s official unveiling. The Moroccan giants hold a narrow 1-0 lead from the first leg played in Accra last Sunday.
Ziyech, 31, is currently a free agent after parting ways with Turkish champions Galatasaray, where he endured an injury-plagued stint. Despite receiving offers from several clubs across Europe and the Middle East, the former Chelsea and Ajax playmaker has opted to return home and join one of Africa’s most successful clubs.
