Former Super Eagles head coach, Finidi George, will return to coaching with Rivers United next season with the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club confirming his appointment ahead of the 2024/25 season, Kickgh.com can reveal.

 


The Former Nigeria international, who flopped as head coach of the Super Eagles has made a quick return to management barely a month after resigning as head coach of Nigeria’s senior national team.



Finidi, who was a former coach of Enyimba hails from Rivers State - Super Eagles managerial reign lasted only 40 days after two poor run of  results in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June.



Under his tutelage, Finidi led Nigeria to a 1-1 draw with South Africa at home and then suffered a 2-1 defeat to the Benin Republic, raising questions about his eligibility to lead the team.

The Pride of Rivers wants to effect changes to their technical team after struggling in the league under head coach Evans Ogenyi, finishing 8th in the standings with 53 points after 38 matches, failing to secure a continental ticket for the first time in three years.

His first task will be to build a formidable team that can compete in the NPFL after the departure of about 13 first-team players at the end of last season.
