Ghana head coach Otto Addo has lauded the unwavering support of Kumasi fans for the Black Stars over the years, emphasizing their vital role in the team’s success.

The Black Stars return to Kumasi to open their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola at the Baba Yara Stadium on Thursday, September 5, at 16:00 GMT.

Speaking ahead of the match, Addo expressed his admiration for the loyalty and enthusiasm of the Kumasi supporters, who have consistently backed the national team, even during challenging times.

“To be honest, I’m not concerned. Kumasi fans in my time never let us down. The last game, we were 2-1 behind against Central African Republic, and they supported us all the way,” Addo said.

He continued, “They’re always supportive, and we will need them tomorrow. They are like our 12th player, and we love to play in Kumasi. It’s very helpful, and we appreciate their efforts.”

Following the crucial match against Angola, the Black Stars will travel to Berkane, Morocco, to face Niger on September 9 in their second Group F game. Ghana aims to start the AFCON qualifiers on a strong note, with a home win being essential after Sudan's 1-0 victory over Niger in the group opener.

The Black Stars cannot afford to drop points as they seek to qualify for Africa's premier football tournament.
