Michael Olise has chosen to represent France despite efforts to convince him to play for Algeria, according to former international Adlène Guedioura.

Guedioura revealed on beIN Sports that he tried to persuade Olise during his time at Crystal Palace to join the Algerian national team, also known as the Fennecs.

“I was trying to bring him to Algeria!” he said.

Despite those efforts, Olise decided to continue his international career with France, a choice he says felt natural.

“My choice to represent France was natural; I’ve always felt like I was playing for France,” he explained.

The attacking midfielder is now playing for Bayern Munich, where he is enjoying one of the best periods of his career.

He has recorded 16 goals and 25 assists in all competitions which underlines his growing influence at club level.

Olise’s form has strengthened his place in the France squad, with expectations that he will play an important role at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

His rise continues to highlight his status as one of the most effective attacking players on the international stage.
