The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has entered into fresh contract negotiations with Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro after guiding the team to a satisfactory performance in the 2023 African Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.

The 63-year-old trainer's contract is set to expire on the last day of February, but football bosses in Nigeria are optimistic that the well-traveled Portuguese will extend his stay with the Super Eagles despite interest from other countries and clubs.

Egyptian powerhouse Zamalek and Algeria senior national football team are eager to bring Peseiro to their fold.

Peseiro has changed the face of the Super Eagles since he joined the team in May, 2022, finishing as runner-up in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, losing 2–1 to hosts Ivory Coast; subsequently, he was awarded the Order of the Niger by president Bola Tinubu.

If an agreement is reached and he's offered a new contract, his next task with the Super Eagles would be to play against South Africa's Bafana Bafana in a 2026 World Cup qualifier.
