Nigeria striker Gift Orban is set to return to TSG Hoffenheim at the end of the season after Hellas Verona reportedly decided not to make his loan move permanent.

The 23-year-old joined the Serie A side on a season-long loan last summer to gain more regular playing time. The deal included an option for Verona to sign him on a full transfer after the campaign.

Orban made a useful contribution during his time in Italy, scoring seven goals and providing two assists in 28 league matches for Verona. His efforts helped improve the club’s attack at important moments during the season.

However, a recent dip in form appears to have influenced the Italian club’s decision. The forward has gone nearly three months without scoring, which reports say played a role in Verona choosing not to activate the purchase option.

According to German outlet BILD, Verona will allow the striker to return to TSG Hoffenheim once the season ends.

Orban remains under contract with Hoffenheim until 2029, meaning the Bundesliga club will decide his next step. The German side could bring him back into their squad for next season or look at new transfer options during the summer window.

The striker only joined Hoffenheim in January 2025 in a reported €9 million move from French club Olympique Lyonnais, but limited chances there led to his temporary move to Italy.

With his time at Hellas Verona nearing an end, attention will now turn to where Orban continues his career as he looks to regain form and stay in the plans of the Super Eagles.
