Ghana Premier League club Medeama SC has confirmed the transfer of defender Abdul Fatawu Hamidu to Egyptian side Ghazl El-Mahalla SC.

The announcement was made on Thursday, signaling Hamidu's move ahead of the new season.

In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter), the club expressed their gratitude: “Medeama SC is pleased to announce the transfer of Fatawu Hamidu to the Egyptian side, Ghazl El-Mahalla SC. We wish him the best in his new journey and thank him for his contributions to our club.”

The highly-rated left-back is anticipated to play a significant role for Ghazl El-Mahalla SC in the 2024/25 football season.

Although Zamalek was also interested in signing Hamidu, their coach reportedly declined, giving Ghazl El-Mahalla SC the edge in securing his signature.

Hamidu’s standout performances for Medeama, including contributing to their first-ever Ghana Premier League title in the 2022/23 season, earned him a call-up to the Black Stars. He made his senior debut in a 3-1 victory over Liberia in September 2023.
