Marc Brys, head coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon has asserted strongly ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, assuring journalists and fans that FECAFOOT president Samuel Eto’o will not be allowed inside the team’s locker room during the tournament.
The Belgian tactician emphasized his confidence in the squad’s ability to focus without external pressure.
“Eto’o will not enter our locker room; it is forbidden!” Brys declared.
“The group is mature and competent enough to handle the situation. It is not the first time for many, and I am 100% sure that we will be ready if the mentality is good and if the passion and enthusiasm are present from the beginning. I am a positive person, so I do not deal with the negative, like, for example, FECAFOOT.”
Brys’ remarks are made in reaction to the controversy from AFCON 2023, when Eto’o confronted the players, questioning their commitment and calling out those who naturalized for Cameroon, claiming they lacked the necessary passion.
However, the incident led to reported tensions within the squad, with some players feeling disrespected by the football legend’s remarks.
Determined to avoid a repeat, Brys has taken a strong stance, setting clear boundaries between the team and the federation’s leadership. The move signals his desire to create a stable and focused environment for the Indomitable Lions as they prepare for the highly anticipated tournament.
Cameroon, a five-time AFCON champion, will be aiming for a deep run in Morocco, and Brys believes unity and a positive mindset will be key.
