Former Ghana midfielder Alfred Duncan provided an assist in ACF Fiorentina five-goal thriller win over Atalanta in the Italian Serie A on Sunday afternoon.

Fiorentina came back from a poor start to push past Atalanta in a 3-2 thriller, including great goals from Giacomo Bonaventura and Lucas Martinez-Quarta.

The strong start from Atalanta paid off when Marten de Roon rolled across for Teun Koopmeiners to scuff left-footed from the edge of the area into the far bottom corner, with the aid of a deflection off Fabiano Parisi.

The Viola made little impact until the equaliser out of nowhere, as Nico Gonzalez nodded down a ball into the box, in one movement Jack Bonaventura controlled with his right boot, turned and volleyed in from 14 yards. Atalanta gave him far too much time and space to make the skill work.

That goal seemed to wake Fiorentina up, as Lucas Martinez-Quarta stung Marco Carnesecchi’s gloves, then the defender turned the game around completely in first half stoppages with a strong header from the Alfred Duncan cross.

After the restart, Ademola Lookman hesitated too long on the counter-attack, while Nico Gonzalez’s left-foot curler was just wide of the far post.

Lookman did equalise eventually, bursting into the box after a quick one-two for De Roon’s second assist of the game and drilling into the near bottom corner.

Nico Gonzalez sprung the offside trap and tried to dink Carnesecchi, only to hit the side-netting when one-on-one, while Mario Pasalic made a decisive block to stop Martinez-Quarta tapping in from six yards.

Fiorentina started to pile on the pressure, Carnesecchi at full stretch to palm a Josip Brekalo strike out of the far bottom corner.

The Viola restored their lead in a messy goal, as Lucas Beltran dribbled forward, spread it to the left, the Brekalo cross was deflected off Michael Adopo and several Atalanta players were hesitant to clear, allowing Christian Kouame to pounce.
