De Kaasboeren chief has affirmed his outfit readiness to retain the 21-year-old winger of Ghanaian descent beyond this summer after attracting interest from suitors in this current transfer market

AZ Alkmaar sporting director Max Huiberts has said his club want to keep Dutch-born Ghanaian youngster Ernest Poku as he hopes to tie him down to a long-term contract this summer.

The talented winger, who remains an evergreen figure at the Dutch side, continues to attract the attention of many suitors across Europe given his five-star performances at the AFAS Stadion so far.

However, with the admiring glances being shot at their prized asset in this transfer market, those at the upper echelon of the Eredivisie campaigners are now working feverishly to keep their academy product thereby handing him a new deal in an effort to ward off interest from his admirers next term.

''We would like to keep him [Ernest Poku] at AZ,'' the Dutch football administrator is quoted as saying by Voetbal International. ''Hopefully we can work it out with Ernest,'' he added.

Opoku had a tremendous outing this season after featuring in 42 games by netting 3 and assisting 8 for AZ Alkmaar across all contests in the recently concluded 2024-25 campaign.

Having played for The Netherlands national youth teams, the Hamburg-born attacker still remains eligible to represent Ghana on the international stage.
