Black Stars right-back Tariq Lamptey has been dealt a devastating blow after Fiorentina confirmed he has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee.
The 24-year-old sustained the injury on Sunday during Fiorentina’s Serie A clash with Como at the Artemio Franchi Stadium. Lamptey, making his first start for the Viola since joining in the summer transfer window, was forced off after just 22 minutes, cutting short what was meant to be a breakthrough moment in his Italian adventure.
Medical scans carried out on Monday confirmed the worst fears, ruling Lamptey out for several months. The setback comes as a major disappointment for both player and country, with Ghana preparing for crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers next month.
Fiorentina went on to suffer a 2-1 defeat despite taking an early lead through Rolando Mandragora. Second-half strikes from Marc-Oliver Kempf and Dutch-born Ghanaian forward Jayden Addai — who struck in stoppage time — sealed victory for Como and handed the Viola back-to-back league losses.
Lamptey’s injury is expected to keep him sidelined for the majority of the campaign, extending a frustrating run of fitness issues that have hampered his career progress in recent years.
