English Championship club Plymouth Argyle have announced the signing of Ghana international Michael Baidoo on a long-term contract until the summer of 2028.

Baidoo becomes Plymouth Argyle FC's record signing after joining the club from Swedish side IF Elfsborg this winter, beating the fee the Greens paid for Morgan Whittaker and Bali Mumba in the summer of 2023.

The 25-year-old underwent mandatory medical examination in England on January 1, 2025 to finalize his switch from IF Elfsborg after a three-year stay.

The club's official statement reads: “Argyle can announce Michael Baidoo has signed on a permanent deal that sees him head to Home Park for a record transfer fee”

Prior to his time in Sweden, he played for Sandnes Ulf in Norway, and FC Midtjlland in Denmark. He also had loan spells with Jerv and Fredericia.

Predominantly a midfielder, but also capable of playing as a striker, it is at Elfsborg where Baidoo has really starred, and he has been an integral part of their Europa League campaign this season.

He has scored five goals and assisted three times in that competition, and scored 10 goals and claimed four assists in the Allsvenskan this season.

Baidoo scored the only goal of the game in Elfsborg’s 1-0 win against AS Roma in October and made 76 appearances for the Swedish side in two seasons.

Baidoo, who had already capped for the senior national team of Ghana, will wear the number 30 at Plymouth Argyle and, subject to EFL approval and International clearance, will first be available for selection for their trip to Brentford on 11 January.
