Ghana international forward Daniel Afriyie Barnieh has parted ways with Swiss Super League side FC Zurich following a mutual agreement to terminate his contract, the club announced on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old joined Zurich from Ghana Premier League giants Hearts of Oak in January 2023 but struggled to establish himself as a regular in the starting lineup.

“FC Zurich announce that Ghanaian striker Daniel Afriyie is leaving the city club. His contract was terminated by mutual agreement,” the club said in a brief statement. “FC Zürich thanks Daniel Afriyie for his dedication and wishes him all the best for the future.”

Barnieh made 50 appearances across all competitions for the Swiss outfit, scoring twice. Despite a promising start, limited playing time and stiff competition in attack curtailed his progress.

Capped at senior level for Ghana, Barnieh rose to prominence after captaining the Black Satellites to victory in the 2021 Africa U-20 Cup of Nations. His performances earned him a senior national team call-up later that year.

The forward is now a free agent and is expected to weigh offers from clubs in Europe and Africa as he seeks to revive his career ahead of the 2025/2026 football season.
