Ghanaian midfielder Ernest Nuamah found the back of the net as Olympique Lyonnais secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over Crystal Palace in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
The French club earned all three points at the Groupama Stadium on October 15, with Nuamah scoring in first-half stoppage time to give Lyon a two-goal advantage heading into the break.
Lyon captain Corentin Tolisso opened the scoring in the eighth minute, reacting quickest in the penalty area after a corner kick to put the hosts ahead.
Nuamah then doubled Lyon’s lead moments before half-time, connecting with a pass from Japanese winger Keito Nakamura before calmly finishing with his left foot into the bottom corner.
Crystal Palace responded after the interval, with Yeremy Pino reducing the deficit in the 50th minute after being played through by Adam Wharton.
Lyon regained control of the contest in the 76th minute when substitute Pavel Šulc converted another assist from Nakamura to restore their two-goal cushion.
Palace midfielder Daichi Kamada scored in the 81st minute to set up a tense closing period, but Lyon held on to secure a valuable victory in the European competition.
The result continues Nuamah’s positive run of performances as he remains an important figure in Lyon’s attacking setup.
Lyon will now switch their attention to Ligue 1, where they face Nice on October 18.
