former Ghana U17 star Mohammed Umar has returned to the pitch after suffering from a serious ligament injury to his knee during his Romanian Liga ll side Politehnica Iași clash with Metalul Buzău in a friendly on July 14, 2025.

The ex-Medeama SC centre-back, who was closely monitored by Dutch Eredivisie giants Feyenoord for his potential signing ahead of the summer transfer window in 2025, underwent a successful surgery in Bucharest following his ACL injury in Bulgaria.

ln confirming the gravity of the anterior cruciate ligament sprain in July last year, club chief Florin Briaur told Romanian outlet LIGA2.RO after Umar was diagnosed: ''Unfortunately, the bad news keeps multiplying. After the serious injury of Rareș Ispas, came this equally serious injury of Mohammed Umar. In a trivial contact, our player suffered a torn cruciate collateral ligament and a torn meniscus, which is the worst thing for the knee.

"We had to urgently bring him to Bucharest, we did an MRI and he has already had surgery. We are talking about a terrible injury, which will take him out of the circuit for about six months, so he will not play this year.''

Umar enjoyed the full throttle of the game when Politehnica Iași clashed with USV Iași in a friendly on Tuesday - an encounter they won 2-0 against the Liga lll outfit.
