German-born Ghanaian attacker Aaron Opoku found the net on Saturday afternoon, but his effort could not spare Eintracht Braunschweig from a 2-1 defeat to SV Elversberg in the German second tier.
The 26-year-old, who linked up with Braunschweig in February 2026, was handed a starting role and featured for 61 minutes in the fiercely contested encounter at the URSAPHARM-Arena an der Kaiserlinde.
Elversberg made a blistering start, with Bulgarian international Lukas Petkov striking as early as the fifth minute before doubling the advantage in the 23rd minute to put the hosts firmly in control.
Braunschweig responded before halftime, as Opoku pulled one back in the 35th minute after a well-worked assist from Johan Gomez. The goal injected belief into the visitors, but they were unable to find an equaliser after the break.
With no further goals in the second half, Elversberg held on to secure all three points.
Despite the result, Opoku emerged as one of Braunschweig’s bright sparks, delivering a strong individual display. Since his arrival, he has made three appearances in 2. Bundesliga, registering one goal as he continues to settle into life at the club.
