The 22-year-old winger of Ghanaian descent has completed his switch to the German fifth-tier campaigners from their fellow lower division rivals ahead of the upcoming transfer window

German-born Ghanaian youngster Elias Opoku has joined Oberliga Westfalen club SV Westfalia Rhynern from league adversaries ASC 09 Dortmund for the 2026/27 football season, the club have confirmed.

The former Hombrucher SV U17 star is linking up with the Sportplatz Papenloh campaigners on a free transfer after exhausting his deal with his former employers this summer.

A statement confirming his capturing by the Hamm-Rhynern read: ''The football club SV Westfalia Rhynern is pleased to announce Elias Opoku as another promising new signing from ASC 09 Dortmund for the upcoming season. The 22-year-old attacking player is considered a talented and very fast player who can be deployed flexibly on the wings as well as in the center. With his dynamism, versatility, and attacking drive, Opoku is expected to bring new impetus to Westfalia's game.

''With the signing of Elias Opoku, SV Westfalia Rhynern continues its established path of specifically promoting young and promising players and further strengthening the squad for the upcoming season.''

The Ghana-prospect wideman has told his club's official website: ''I am very much looking forward to the new challenge and to being successful together with the team. The talks with the club immediately gave me a good feeling.

Sporting director Director David Schmidt added: ''Elli’s pace will bring something to our team that we haven’t had to this extent before. His flexibility and attacking qualities make him particularly interesting for us. At the same time, this signing demonstrates the path we want to take: with young, hungry players who have high ambitions of their own, but who also identify with the club’s goals and are fully committed to them.''

Opoku made 36 appearances by racking up 3 goals and setting up another 5 for ASC 09 Dortmund across all competitions in this just ended campaign.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, budding starlet remains eligible to switch nationality and represent the Ghana national football team at the senior level on the international stage.
