The Striped chief has revealed that the 29-year-old defender of Ghanaian descent opted-out of fresh terms over an extension with his outfit as both parties are now going their separate ways this summer

Danish Superliga club Odense BK sporting director Troels Bech has disclosed that his side could not come to terms with Dutch-born Ghanaian defender Leeroy Owusu over contract renewal, with his current deal set to expire on June 30, 2026.

Those in charge of affairs at the Nature Energy Park were hell-bent to tying down the former Ajax U17 star to a contract extension following his enormous contributions on and off the pitch since his arrival at the Odense-based club for the past three seasons.

With his imminent departure this coming summer, club's chief Troels Bech is not pleased about their separation with the Ghana-prospect defender after failing to continue their marriage on fresh terms over renewal for the 2026/27 football season.

Speaking in an interview, the Dane football administrator has told Danish football publication outlet BOLD: ''It takes more than two to tango sometimes. A lot more than it used to be three. It hasn't been possible to reach an agreement, and so we part ways, as the contract allows. It's like two parties that have worked well together and end nicely with just enough smiles on their faces that we also think we've done a good job together.''

He added: ''He has been a trained winger who was supposed to play full-back. There he has primarily had to contribute offensively and has occasionally had to practice defending, which he did not do in his youth. But he has also been a stabilizing player in the locker room and a very valued player among all of us.''

Owusu made over 90 appearances by scoring 9 goals and assisting 16 for Odense BK across three seasons in the Danish football competitions.

Given his Ghanaian heritage, the Purmerend-born defender still remains fit to represent Ghana on the international stage despite playing for The Netherlands U17, U18, U19 and U20 national youth teams.
