Benjamin Asare says criticism and public scrutiny do not affect him as he prepares for what could be the defining moment of his career with the Ghana national team.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper, currently Ghana’s first-choice shot-stopper ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, acknowledged that opinions and doubts are part of the game at the highest level.
Speaking to 3Sports, Asare responded to critics who believe he could struggle against elite opposition at the World Cup, where Ghana have been drawn against England, Croatia and Panama in Group L.
“They say it always, but it’s their opinion. The moment you reach this level, people will say a lot of things,” he said.
Asare also pointed out that even top-level goalkeepers in world football are not immune to mistakes and criticism, stressing that conceding goals is part of the job.
“Although by God’s grace I’ve reached this level, some of these players also play against top goalkeepers who even concede. So how much more me, now making strides thanks to God,” he explained.
Rather than being discouraged, the 30-year-old insists the attention pushes him to work even harder and stay focused on continuous improvement.
“No, it doesn’t bother me; it rather encourages me because not everyone makes it to this level,” he added.
