Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz says a special scouting programme is already helping him assess the country’s top local players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Home-based players have struggled in recent years to secure regular places in the senior national team, but Queiroz says efforts are being made to better understand the Ghana Premier League and identify talent quickly.

Speaking on the Beyond The Whistle podcast, the Portuguese trainer explained that he has stepped up work on monitoring players within Ghana’s domestic league with support from the Ghana Football Association.

“I went deeper to know some of the local players,” Queiroz said.

“We put this programme in place so I could see the best players and understand local football much faster,” he added.

The four-time African champions will make their fifth FIFA World Cup appearance this summer in the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

The Black Stars will begin their campaign against Panama on June 17 before facing England on June 23 and Croatia on June 27.

As part of preparations for the tournament, Queiroz’s side will also play international friendlies against Mexico later this month and Wales on June 2.
