English Premier League returnees Coventry City have emerged as a new contender in the race to sign Ghana international Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, joining a growing list of clubs tracking the highly rated winger.

The 22-year-old is widely expected to leave Leicester City following the club’s relegation to League One, a development that has intensified speculation over his future ahead of the summer transfer window.

Issahaku is regarded as one of Leicester’s most valuable assets, and a potential sale could provide crucial financial relief as the club prepares for life in the third tier.

Coventry’s improved financial position has put them in a strong position to make a move, with the club believed to be ready to act quickly if an opportunity arises.

Despite the competitive history between the two sides, the differing circumstances could make negotiations mutually beneficial, with Coventry potentially looking to drive down Leicester’s asking price.

Premier League duo Everton and Sunderland are also monitoring the situation, while earlier reports had linked the winger with a possible switch to Turkey.

For Issahaku, increased playing time is expected to be a key factor in any decision he makes, with the former Sporting CP player still focused on his development at the top level.

The winger, who has earned 27 caps and scored three goals for Ghana, joined Leicester in July 2024 on a long-term deal running until 2029. His current market valuation is estimated at €24 million following a reported €17 million move from Sporting CP.

Fatawu Issahaku is in contention for a place in Ghana’s 2026 World Cup squad expected to be announced this month.
