Ghanaian young midfielder Emmanuel Essiam has extended his contract with Swiss top-flight league powerhouse FC Basel for two more seasons.
The 20-year-old enforcer was acquired by FC Basel from from Ghana Premier League outfit Berekum Chelsea during the 2022 summer transfer window.
Essiam was handed a new two-year contract by the Swiss Super League outfit to keep him at the club until the summer of 2028.
The club's official statement reads: “FC Basel 1893 has prematurely extended the contract with its 20-year-old midfielder Emmanuel Essiam by two years until summer 2028.”
After a series of lengthy injuries, he moved on loan to FC Stade Lausanne Ouchy last season, where a shoulder operation again slowed him down after just a few months.
He made 21 appearances for the Red and Blue lads before being shipped out on loan to Stade Lausanne last term.
Essiam featured prominently for the Ghana U23 team that failed to qualify for the 2024 Olympic Games in France.
