Ghana youth defender Nathaniel Adjei put in a standout performance for FC Lorient, despite their 1-0 defeat to Pau FC in the French Ligue 2 on Tuesday night.
Lorient, eager to bounce back after their 1-1 draw with Metz FC in the previous round, found themselves on the back foot when Senegalese forward Pathé Mboup scored the only goal of the game in the 34th minute for Pau FC at the Nouste Camp.
Things went from bad to worse for Lorient when Moroccan defender Montassar Talbi was shown a red card in the 40th minute for dangerous play, leaving the visitors with a numerical disadvantage for the remainder of the match.
Despite the setback, Nathaniel Adjei was a key figure in Lorient's defense, constantly thwarting Pau FC's attacks. The 22-year-old Ghanaian defender showcased his leadership at the back, finishing the game with the highest passing accuracy and most interceptions for his team. His overall rating of 7.8 was the highest among his Lorient teammates.
Adjei, who missed the preseason due to injury, has quickly re-established himself as a key player in Lorient's defense, delivering consistent performances since his return.
Lorient, currently with 10 points, sit two points behind league leaders Metz. They will aim to return to winning ways when they host AC Ajaccio on Friday, September 27, 2024.
