Ghanaian forward Kwadwo Poku Mahala marked a significant milestone in his 2026 Major League Soccer campaign by scoring his first goal of the season in CF Montreal’s commanding 4-1 victory over New York Red Bulls on Saturday evening.

The former Ghana youth international made an impact off the bench, adding the fourth goal of the match in the 77th minute to put the result beyond doubt for Montreal.

Poku finished off a well-worked move, calmly converting after latching onto a clever chipped pass from compatriot and captain Prince Osei-Owusu. With the Red Bulls’ defence caught out of position, the 24-year-old showed composure to slot into an empty net.

The goal was a deserved reward for Poku, who has been steadily building form this season as he continues to adapt to the intensity and demands of top-flight football in North America.

His strike capped a dominant attacking display from CF Montreal, who secured their first home victory of the campaign in convincing fashion.

Known for his pace, direct dribbling, and attacking flair, Poku remains one of Ghana’s promising talents abroad. Having impressed at youth level earlier in his career, he is gradually establishing himself at senior club level.

With his confidence now boosted, Poku will be aiming for more playing time and consistent contributions as Montreal push to improve their position in the MLS standings.
