Ghana international Ransford-Yeboah Konigsdörffer produced a match-winning performance with two crucial goals as Hamburger SV secured a dramatic 3-2 victory over Union Berlin in an action-packed Bundesliga clash at the Volksparkstadion.
Union Berlin struck first through a penalty converted by Leopold Querfeld, but Hamburg responded strongly. Konigsdorffer brought the hosts level in the 35th minute, timing his run perfectly to meet a cut-back from Robert Glatzel and calmly finishing to make it 1-1.
Moments before the break, Hamburg completed the comeback. Nicolás Capaldo finished off a well-worked move after being set up by Bakery Jatta, sending the home side into half-time with a 2-1 lead.
Union pushed hard in the second half in search of an equaliser, but Hamburg remained dangerous on the counter. With eight minutes remaining, Konigsdorffer struck again, racing onto a clever through ball from Giorgi Gocholeishvili before calmly slotting home to make it 3-1 and ignite celebrations among the home supporters.
A late header from Andrej Ilić reduced the deficit and set up a tense finish, but Hamburg held on to claim a vital victory in front of a sold-out crowd.
Konigsdorffer’s standout display continues his steady rise this season. The Ghanaian forward has now made 21 league appearances in the 2025/26 campaign, scoring four goals and providing one assist, highlighting his increasing importance in Hamburg’s attacking setup.
Hamburg will look to build on the momentum when they travel to face Mainz 05 on Friday, February 20, aiming to continue their push up the table.
