Ghanaian defender Issahaku Yakubu, popularly known as “Leftey,” has sealed a permanent switch to Al-Ahli Tripoli from National Bank of Egypt SC in a deal reportedly valued at USD 600,000.

The transfer was concluded in the final hours of the Libyan winter transfer window on Friday, after both clubs reached an agreement to buy out the remaining portion of the 31-year-old’s contract, which was originally due to run until the end of the 2025/26 season.

Yakubu departs National Bank following an accomplished four-and-a-half-year spell in Cairo. He joined the club in September 2021 from Wadi Degla SC, where he had previously impressed. During his time at Wadi Degla, he made 82 appearances, scoring twice and contributing 12 assists.

At National Bank, the experienced left-sided player became a key figure, amassing 143 appearances, scoring three goals and registering 20 assists. In the current campaign alone, he featured in 14 league matches across all competitions, netting three times and playing an important role as the club climbed to ninth place with 21 points from 15 matches.

Capable of operating at left-back or further forward on the flank, Yakubu brings versatility, attacking drive, and experience to his new side. Al-Ahli Tripoli have strengthened significantly during the window, also securing the services of Blati Touré and Mustafa Shakshak from the Egyptian league.

Before his move to Egypt, Yakubu gained European experience with Lierse S.K. and GS Ergotelis, adding further pedigree to an already well-travelled career.
