Ghanaian midfielder Michael Baidoo is on the brink of a quick departure from English side Plymouth Argyle, just six months after joining the club.

According to reports from Qatari outlet Akoora, the 26-year-old is in advanced talks to join Umm Salal SC, runners-up in the Qatari top-flight, with a deal expected to be finalised soon.

Baidoo arrived at Plymouth in January 2025 from Swedish outfit IF Elfsborg, in what was widely reported to be a record transfer deal for the Swedish club, valued between €1.7 million and €1.8 million, including performance-related bonuses.

However, the Ghanaian international has struggled to make an impact in England. He managed just 13 appearances during the second half of the Championship campaign, failing to secure a consistent starting role under manager Ian Foster.

Following Plymouth’s relegation to League One, Baidoo is seeking a new challenge, and the Qatari league—known for its competitive growth and lucrative contracts—offers an appealing opportunity.

A move to Umm Salal could provide Baidoo with regular playing time and a more stable platform to rediscover his best form, after stints in Norway, Sweden, and now England.

If the deal is completed, it would mark yet another turning point in Baidoo’s career as he continues his journey across European and Middle Eastern football.
