Ghanaian forward Owusu Kwabena was on the scoresheet for Ankaragücü on Friday evening, but his effort wasn’t enough to prevent a 2-1 defeat against Manisa Futbol Kulübü in the Turkish 1. Lig.
Manisa seized early control of the match with two well-taken goals in the first half. Georgi Minchev opened the scoring in the 29th minute, heading in a precise cross from Oguz Gürbulak. The provider was at it again just before halftime, delivering a corner that Bartu Göçmen nodded home to make it 2-0.
Kwabena, one of Ankaragücü’s standout performers this season, gave his side hope in the 55th minute. The winger reacted quickest to a loose ball in the box following a corner and slotted it in from close range to halve the deficit.
Despite sustained pressure in search of an equalizer, Ankaragücü were unable to breach the resolute Manisa defense again. Kwabena completed the full 90 minutes, taking his season tally to six goals and one assist in 12 league appearances.
The result sees the head-to-head record between the two clubs shift slightly, with Manisa now holding two wins to Ankaragücü’s one, alongside one draw.
Ankaragücü will look to bounce back when they host Çorum FK on April 27.
