Antoine Semenyo has paid glowing tribute to Pep Guardiola after inspiring Manchester City FC to FA Cup glory with a decisive performance against Chelsea FC at Wembley Stadium.

The Ghana international was the difference-maker in a tightly contested final on Saturday, scoring the only goal of the game to seal a 1-0 victory and hand Manchester City another major trophy under Guardiola.

With both sides locked in a tense battle and chances at a premium, Semenyo produced a moment of instinctive brilliance in the second half. Inside a crowded penalty area, with his back to goal and defenders closing in, he reacted quickly to improvise a clever finish into the bottom corner—ultimately deciding the outcome of the final.

The strike not only delivered FA Cup success but also made history, as Semenyo became the first Ghanaian footballer ever to score in an FA Cup final.

His goal also carried personal significance, marking his 20th strike of the season across all competitions and breaking a long-standing record held by Ghana legend Tony Yeboah, who scored 19 goals for Leeds United FC during the 1995/96 campaign.

Speaking after the match, Semenyo admitted the decisive finish came from quick thinking in a split-second situation.

“I just tried to improvise the best I could and it went in the bottom corner so I can’t complain,” he said. “I’ve done it a couple of times in training. It was behind me so that’s the only thing I could do and luckily for me it went in.”

The 25-year-old’s season has been split between two clubs, with 10 goals for AFC Bournemouth before his January move to Manchester City, where he added another 10 goals under Guardiola’s guidance.

Despite his rapid rise, Semenyo credited hard work and the influence of the City manager for helping him reach new levels.

“It’s been hard work. I am learning a lot with a lot of top pros around me and a top coach. Long may it continue,” he added.

The FA Cup triumph marks Semenyo’s second trophy since joining Manchester City, following their earlier Carabao Cup success this season.

He also reserved special praise for Guardiola’s demanding mentality and impact on his development.

“He’s a madman. We all love him. He’s so passionate and wants to win trophies. What he’s done for the club is amazing. I’m grateful he gets to coach me and make me a better player,” Semenyo said.
