Ghana attacker Inaki Williams has lifted his first-ever Copa Del Rey trophy with Athletic Bilbao after beating Real Mallorca 4-2 on penalty shootouts in the final.

Athletic Bilbao secured their 24th Copa del Rey title in dramatic fashion, defeating Mallorca on penalties after a hard-fought contest in Seville.

With Athletic's famous Gabarra ready to set sail for the first time in 40 years, there was a wave of expectation in the Athletic fan base as the illustrious Basque team looked to add another chapter to a Copa story that began at the turn of the 19th century. 

Real Mallorca took the lead in the 21st minute through a fine strike from Dani Rodríguez to stun Bilbao by ending the first half with a comfortable 1-0 lead.

Spanish international Oscar Sancet superbly leveled the score for Athletic Bilbao when he made good use of Nico Williams' pass to keep their hopes of ending their 40-year Copa Del Rey trophy drought alive.

The entire duration, including thirty minutes of extra time, ended in a 1-1 stalemate, which forced the fixture into a penalty shootout to determine the winner. Athletic Bilbao emerged victorious with a 4-2 win over penalties.

Inaki Williams has clinched his third title for Athletic Bilbao after helping them win the Spanish Super Cup during the 2015/16 and 2020/21 seasons.
