Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has weighed in on football’s long-running Greatest of All Time (GOAT) debate, firmly selecting Lionel Messi ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo.
The in-form AFC Bournemouth forward, while acknowledging Ronaldo’s remarkable achievements, made it clear that the former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain star stands above the Portuguese icon in his personal assessment.
The debate between Messi and Ronaldo has dominated world football for more than two decades, with the Argentine boasting a record eight Ballon d’Or awards, compared to Ronaldo’s five. Both players have enjoyed immense success at club and international level, though Messi’s legacy was further cemented by leading Argentina to FIFA World Cup glory — a feat Ronaldo is yet to achieve with Portugal.
Sharing his view, Semenyo did not hesitate in naming his preferred choice.
“Messi by a hundred percent. I’ll never downplay what Ronaldo has achieved, but for me personally, I’m a Messi fan,” he said.
Semenyo’s comments come at a time when he is enjoying the most productive spell of his career. The Black Stars attacker has been outstanding for Bournemouth this season, scoring eight goals and providing three assists in the Premier League, performances that continue to elevate his status both domestically and internationally.
