German-born of Ghanaian parentage Derrick Kohn says representing Ghana at international level is a great honour and will turn down any call-up that will come from his country of birth Germany.
The 26-year-old plies his trade in the German Bundesliga with Union Berlin and has been very impressive and amazing since the commencement of the ongoing 2025/26 campaign.
His maiden Black Stars invite was in August this year against Chad and Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but had to wait for his debut as he watched all those two matches from the bench.
Fast forward in November, he made the cut once again for the Kirin Challenge Cup and finally had his debut against Japan - where he had a descent game even though Ghana lost.
Kohn with how consistent he’s been this season with 15 league games so far, is one of the players who are seriously been considered by the Black Stars technical team for the next World Cup which is six months from now.
With the Bundesliga currently on break, Kohn is in Ghana now enjoying his Christmas holidays and in an interview with Accra-based Sporty FM, he expressed readiness to play for Ghana from henceforth and will even turn down Germany at the moment should he received an invite
“A call-up from Germany is a big thing. If they call me, I will tell them the truth that my heart is with Ghana. It doesn’t matter what happens at the World Cup, Im ready ready to play for Ghana, whether it’s AFCON qualifiers or friendly.”
He further revealed the hidden love he’s always had for the team’s current captain Jordan Ayew
“I have been watching Jordan Ayew since growing up. I’ve been looking up to him and it’s nice to play with him.”
Ghana has been drawn in Group L of the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside England, Croatia and Panama. The competition starts on June 11, 2026.
