Ghana international Antoine Semenyo has opened up about his admiration for Ivory Coast legend Didier Drogba, admitting that the former Chelsea striker has had a major influence on his style of play.
The AFC Bournemouth forward has enjoyed an impressive start to the current campaign, performances that have reportedly attracted strong interest ahead of the upcoming winter transfer window.
Speaking about his football inspirations, the Black Stars attacker singled out Drogba, a two-time Africa Footballer of the Year, describing the iconic striker as the perfect model for his own game.
“I always wanted to play like him. So strong, so quick, great shooting technique… He just suits the way I play — left foot, right foot, can head the ball,” Semenyo said.
Semenyo is now expected to be at the centre of a potential bidding war in January, with a £65 million release clause in his Bournemouth contract set to become active during the winter window.
Several clubs are understood to be monitoring the situation closely and are prepared to test Bournemouth’s resolve with formal bids for the Ghanaian forward.
Although the Cherries had previously ruled out a January sale in a bid to retain one of their key attacking assets, the activation of the £65 million clause could pave the way for Semenyo to leave the Vitality Stadium in search of a new challenge if suitors meet the valuation.
