Malaysian Super League side Negeri Sembilan FC have completed the signing of Ghanaian forward Joseph Esso ahead of the 2025–26 season, with the 28-year-old already linking up with the squad in training this week.
Esso joins The Jangs following an impressive campaign with Ghana Premier League side Dreams FC, where he scored 11 goals in 32 appearances during the 2024–25 season. The move is seen as a major addition to Negeri Sembilan’s attacking options as they aim for a strong league campaign.
“Negeri Sembilan FC hereby announces the arrival of #TheJangs' new striking machine, Joseph Esso to the Motherland,” the club confirmed in a statement accompanied by training photos on Wednesday. “Esso, 28, is a Ghanaian-born striker who previously played for Dream FC has scored 11 goals from 32 appearances in the 2024/2025 Ghana Premier League rivals. Welcome to the Native Land, Esso!”
The former Ghana international brings significant experience, having also played for Ebusua Dwarfs and Dreams FC in the Ghana Premier League, as well as Algerian side MC Alger, where he netted 11 goals and provided five assists in 66 appearances across all competitions.
Esso featured for the Black Galaxies during the 2019 WAFU Cup of Nations, scoring in the final against Senegal and helping the Black Stars B side to a runners-up finish.
Known for his movement, pressing ability, and clinical finishing, Esso is expected to provide depth and versatility to coach Nidzam Jamil’s forward line, which includes Luqman Hakim, Selvan Anbualagan, Japanese duo Takumi Sasaki and Mio Tsuneyasu, and Serbian winger Jovan Motika.
His arrival underlines Negeri Sembilan’s intent to mount a serious challenge in the upcoming Malaysian Super League campaign.
